a little back story
DESIGN+ART
Music, photography and architecture are the driving force and main source of inspiration of my creative. I use each during the ideation process and focus that energy to develop each concept through final execution. Thriving in an environment where impeccable messaging, brilliant typography, and seamless photo composition are the starting point, I’m in my comfort zone as a sole designer or managing a team.
Originally attending art school to hone my illustration skills, I discovered a love for graphic design, typography and photo compositing. After graduating from The Art Institute in San Diego, I moved to Seattle Washington to cut my teeth as a graphic designer for the Costco Connection. In 2001, with two years of editorial layouts and accompanying illustrative work under my belt, I moved back to California for the the Art Director position at SMP Clothing. In addition to launching national advertising campaigns in the surf, skate and motocross industries, designing all the marketing material for a lifestyle clothing company, my screen printed t-shirt designs were picked up at Tillys and Zumiez and Skate and Surf shops throughout California.
The entertainment industry was the next stop, in 2003 as a freelance Art Director I created national advertising campaigns and direct mail assets for DIRECTV’s Pay-Per-View Programming, NFL Sunday Ticket, ESPN HD, Mega March Madness packages. In 2006 I landed the Art Director position for CAPS Association, one of 3 marketing partners for Kawasaki. Within 2 years I earned the Creative Director title, spearheading all brochure work, studio and location photography. A year later was offered the GM/CD position, and delivered exceptional photography assets used globally to market the entire Kawasaki line of products while successfully managing a $1.8M account. Starting in 2013 I was the Art Director at DeanHouston, Inc and lead creative on all marketing campaigns for top clients. As lead creative, I spearheaded ideation and brainstorming efforts, directed and actively participated in design of all marketing collateral, and was responsible for pre/post production of all photo shoots including budgets, scouting, vendor negotiations, and client management.
January 2021, I was awarded two murals from Community Through Hope (CTH). CTH is a non-profit organization serving San Diego’s unsheltered. Two 30’ x 10’ murals were painted throughout high-traffic areas of the building, and are used as the primary backdrops for marketing material.
In July 2021, I accepted the title Art Director with PARADYME with a plan to rebrand the PARADYME aesthetic, creating a cohesive, progressive look and feel on all marketing fronts.
